Doug Moench, Kelley Jones and myself worked on “Batman” projects back in the 90′s and to the end of the year 2000. It was a great ride, with two people I really enjoyed working with.
We did 3 ‘Elseworld’ Graphic Novels, and an ‘Elseworld’ series. Three years on the monthly “Batman” comic, beginning with issue #515.
It’s been 10 years since I’ve inked Kelley.
This was a lot of fun and it brought back a lot of memories.
Thanks to Ari for getting Kelley and I back together on something!

Wow! This looks fantastic John. I love seeing your inks over Kelley’s pencils. Especially on Batman. What a beautiful piece.
I love all of Batmanąs issues from your gropu. It’s nice coincidence that my pal from USA bought me some of them few days ago and will gave me next time he will be on Polend.
Thank you for this art. Did you talk with Kelley last days? Maybe you can show us sth more.
John,
Just admiring this piece again lol. Was this piece pencilled by Kelley as a commission for this person? Did you get to ink the actual pencils or was this blueline?
Amazing stuff as always John!
Best,
Jason
Jason-
Yes, this was over Kelley’s actual pencils. He drew it on some of the old DC stock with a bit of a tooth to it, which I always liked as it was good for getting a dry-brush effect when needed and the extra drag on the board was just enough to hold some of my brush work, without being to slippery.
I did take photo’s of the work in progress and plan on writing something up for my http://inkclass.com site as soon as I can.
That might be awhile due to work right now and being backed up on things.
Kelley got it to me in one day after the commission got green-lit and I inked it over a few weeks, in between other stuff…then when it was done it took me over a month to package it and let it go.
It is really hard to believe that it’s been a decade since I’ve inked Kelley! The price tag on this piece was not cheap, but as you know, Kelley is not in the habit of doing commission work. He and I have discussed doing some other commissions in the future tho…so maybe it won’t be another 10 years until the next time!

I’m also wondered. It looks like good old Batman by Kelley and John, but with some new details.
See my answer to Jason, Jan.
Kelley does not do commissions, this is why you have not seen any new artwork from him and myself in 10 years!
As noted, if I have the time, I have pictures that show the progress and my thinking behind inking this art. Hopefully I can find the time to write it up! If anything, I can post pictures.
Thank you, I read it earlier. I read that Kelley dosn’t like an Internet. I am happy and thankfully that you show something new.
